When bypass opens, oil skips the filter media. There is zero filtration until the bypass valve closes again.
During bypass, oil circulates through the engine without any filtration—and that lack of protection can accelerate internal wear on bearings, turbo, and cam components.
- Cold starts and loaded paper media force the bypass open so oil can flow. We agree with the engineers—that part is by design.
- While bypass is open, there is zero filtration in the loop. Bearings, turbo, and cam all run unprotected until the valve closes.
